A study conducted by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry revealed that 99.7% of the respondents believe that a smile is an important social asset.
Further, 96% believe that a nice smile makes a person more attractive and 74% believe an unattractive smile can negatively impact career opportunities.
When asked what they thought would improve their smile, most answered a whiter, brighter smile.
The quest for whiter teeth is nothing new, but it was in the 1980’s that dentists using hydrogen peroxide to treat gums noticed the whitening effect it had on teeth. Special trays and gels were developed specifically for teeth whitening. It has become the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure performed, in part because as we age, our teeth tend to get darker. Our dentist Riverside are skilled at this procedure.
Other contributing factors that lead to discolored or stained teeth include genetics, some foods and beverages, tobacco products, inadequate oral hygiene, and medicines.
Many patients want a sparkling white smile with the help of Dr. Jyoti V. Desar that can be possible with just a matter of consultations.
Teeth Whitening Techniques
For those who would likely benefit from teeth whitening, there are several methods available. Laser bleaching and custom fit tray bleaching are in-patient procedures, whilst whitening strips can be purchased over the counter and done at home.
There are advantages and disadvantages to each option. Laser bleaching shows immediate results and both laser bleaching and custom fit trays offer a higher degree of whitening power.
Store bought whitening strips are economical, however the potency is much less than in-patient procedures.
Laser bleaching – Immediate results and several shades whiter.
Custom fit tray bleaching – Economical and results can be several shades whiter over time.
Deciding which method is best can be overwhelming. It is a good idea to make a dental appointment as you consider teeth-whitening. Getting professional advice about teeth whitening or any other dental procedure is a good idea.
